We continue with the event presentation of season XI with Marcialonga. The 70-kilometer race takes place January 31st.
In the following days we will present all season XI Pro Tour events one by one.
Marcialonga in Italy is one of the most popular and renowned cross-country ski events in the world. The race was established in 1971 when some innovative Italians decided to create their own version of the world famous Vasaloppet.
With its magical atmosphere, finely honed organization and beautiful surroundings the 70-kilometer course attracts thousands of skiers every year. There are also great snow farming facilities in the area guaranteeing that the race can be held without any natural snow.
The race starts in Moena, Val di Fassa, and finishes on the main street of Cavalese, Val di Fiemme, passing through 13 villages and thousands of cheering spectators. The course also passes the prominent ski jumps in Predazzo and goes through the famous Nordic ski arena in Tesero, which is used for Tour de Ski and has been the host location for three FIS Nordic Ski World Championships in 1991, 2003 and 2013. The race ends with one of the most famous landmarks of long distance skiing, Cascata Hill, which is a 2.5 km climb to the town center of Cavalese.
