Petter Northug announced earlier in September that he would make a comeback this winter with his own Pro Team. Now it has been disclosed his first snow competition.
The Ski Classics Season XIV starts with a Pro Team Tempo in Bad Gastein, Austria, on December 10. This is a brand-new location for the kick-off weekend. At the beginning of October, Ski Classics announced a new pre-season race concept taking place in Sjusjøen, Norway, on November 12.
The Sjusjøen Super Criterium is a 30-km long-distance skiing race in classic technique, is part of the Ski Classics Challengers circuit, and is organized in cooperation with Sjusjøen and the Norwegian Biathlon Association.
Super Criterium is defined in skiing as a mass-start loop race with several laps of less than 5km each, and Petter Northug has now decided to start at the Sjusjøen Super Criterium.
Pro Team athletes who are ready to start the Super Crit in Norway are three-time Marcialonga winner Tord Asle Gjerdalen, Stian Hoelgaard, Klarälvsloppet winner Petter Stakston and former Vasaloppet fifth-place finisher Klas Nilsson. In addition, Team Engcon will start at the Ski Classics pre-season race.
The Super Criterium competition will be TV produced by NRK in cooperation with Ski Classics/Wsportsmedia. The broadcast will also be available at SC Play, langrenn.com, langd.se, maastohiihto.com, and proxcskiing.com, with English commentaries.
