In April 2019 the Visma Ski Classics Challengers concept was launched, created in order to connect and promote long distance skiing events worldwide. At this point, 25 events have already signed up, with more to come...
Visma Ski Classics celebrate its 10th season as the long distance skiing championship (Season X, 2019/2020), combining a maximum amount of 12 events into a Professional tour for Pro Teams. The uniqueness about the concept is that professional and recreational skiers both take part in the events, standing on the starting line together, facing the same weather conditions and courses, all genders alike.
The new Visma Ski Classics Challengers series is designed to take a bigger responsibility for the sport itself, connect and promote long-distance skiing and roller-skiing events around the world, giving the opportunity for an unlimited number of events to be part of the Visma Ski Classics brand. The minimum requirements for the events are designed so that even the smaller local races have the possibility to partake in Visma Ski Classics Challengers, also being free of charge. To attract Pro Team skiers to the events, they will be able to collect points for the Visma Ski Classics Champion competition counting their best Challengers result per season.
The minimum distance for a Challengers event is 30 km and can be held in classic or free technique, skiing or roller-skiing. All the events are presented on www.vismaskiclassics.com with information about each event and how to sign up. All events are open for recreational and Pro Skiers alike. The events will be available for fans to follow in Visma Ski Classics live center with live results updates on the race day. Highlights and in some cases even live-streaming will be accessible through Visma Ski Classics PLAY and social media sites.
The Visma Ski Classics season starts on 1st of May each year and ending with the Pro Tour final event, which for the coming season is Ylläs-Levi on 4th of April 2020. The last Challengers event of the season can take place five days prior to the final Pro Tour event. This weekend the 4th Challengers event for Season X will be held, Klarälvsloppet, which is a 90 km long race on roller-skis in Värmland, Sweden. You can follow Klarälvsloppet live-streaming on Visma Ski Classics Facebook and PLAY service.
