La Venosta and Toblach-Cortina Skating races become part of Visma Ski Classics Challengers.
Hidden in South Tyrol, close to the borders of Switzerland and Austria, La Venosta Skating starts in Kapron with participants already challenged by a longer slight uphill section to the highest point on the course, Melago Alm. From there, Pro Tour athletes and recreational skiers will circle around the scenic Vallelunga Valley before crossing the finish line after 30km in the picturesque village of Melago.
"We are proud that the cross-country ski event La Venosta and the region Reschenpass are not only part of Visma Ski Classics, but now also part of Visma Ski Classics Challengers. South Tyrol and the Venosta Valley warmly welcome all participants to a two-days ski festival and promise to provide an unforgettable experience to each participant and spectator", says La Venosta Chief of Event and Tourism Director, Gerald Burger.
Toblach-Cortina is part of the Visma Ski Classics Pro Tour since 2016 and from now on also a Visma Ski Classics Challengers event with the 32km freestyle race that will be held on Sunday, 02.02.2020.
The event is one of the most traditional long-distance skiing races in Italy and takes place since 1977. The entire course is located in the UNESCO Natural World Heritage and runs from the famous Nordic Arena in Toblach, following the route of the old Dolomites Railway (“Ferrovia delle Dolomiti”), to the finish line in the heart of Cortina d'Ampezzo, one of the host cities of 2026 Winter Olympics.
”After four years of positive collaboration with Visma Ski Classics, Toblach-Cortina is very proud to also join the Challengers Series with the 32km free technique race on Sunday. It’s very important for long-distance skiing to be promoted in the right way and to motivate more and more people to practice this beautiful outdoor sport. We expect that the popularity and interest on the skating race will increase in Italy and abroad, demonstrating that the OC will continue on the path undertaken for the event internationalization and showing the importance of Dobbiaco and Cortina d’Ampezzo municipalities”, says Organizing Committee President Herbert Santer.
