The Norwegian Pro Team, Team Rustad IL Oslo, consists of ten Pro athletes for season XI.
“We have a two-part goal. On the one hand, we aim for top positions, on the other hand, we also will develop young athletes for long distance skiing,” says Pro Team Director Ståle Fenstad.
Rustad IL is one of the biggest ski clubs in Norway, with about 900 members. Team Rustad IL Oslo is the club’s offer for the athletes that want to focus on long distance skiing.
Pro Team Director Ståle Fenstad is looking forward to season XI and has high hopes for some of his young Pro Team athletes.
“Amund Riege is only 20 years old but I think he has potential for a top 15 placement on a good day already this winter. In season X he was 39th in Marcialonga. He was in the big bunch all the way to Cascata,” says Fenstad.
“He focusses 100% on training besides some studies. In the future, I think he can be a podium athlete,” Fenstad continues.
Lars Sørensen in another young athlete Fenstad believes in. He trains together with Riege in Trondheim.
“He could be close to top 20 in some races, I guess.”
Thomas Gifstad in an athlete with more experience of the Pro Tour. He was 10th in Vasaloppet 2018 but has struggled a bit since then.
The Pro Team has an exciting athlete in the former elite football player Marius Harv who started skiing just 4-5 years ago.
“Marius is physically so strong. I think he could be a surprise but he needs to work a little bit more with his technic,” Fenstad thinks.
On the women’s side, Swedish Evelina Bångman is an established athlete on the Pro Tour, Youth bib winner 2017.
“Last winter Evelina broke an arm but now she had trained well during the summer,” Fenstad informs.
