The Swedish Pro Team, Team Curira, consists of five Pro athletes for season XI.
Former Team Igne enters the season under a new name, Team Curira.
“The goal is to continue to raise the level. We train really hard and hope to be able to elevate ourselves,” says Klas Nilsson, talking about himself and his teammates Johan Lövgren and Niklas Henriksson.
The trio ended season X with strong efforts at Vasaloppet. Klas finished 5th, his best race of his career. Johan was 15th and Niklas 19th, also their best places in Vasaloppet.
I season X; the Pro Team had three-time Vasaloppet winner Jörgen Brink as Pro Team Manager. Now Jörgen is no longer with them.
“We had a good time together with Jörgen but now he has chosen to invest more in his own business with camps and training advice. But we continue with the same philosophy in training.
Klas himself has the well-known biathlon coach Wolfgang Pichler as his personal coach and at the Pro Teams training camps, everyone trains according to Pichler’s plan.
This means, among other things, long and tough interval workouts of around two hours.
“At first we thought it was quite extreme but now it works,” says Klas and continues;
“We invest hard and dare to take steps in training. We can’t be comfortable and we will see how it turns out.”
Pichler recently suffered from heart problems and is in hospital in Germany.
“It’s sad. I have heard that it is a little better with Wolfgang now but I have no more information at the moment,” says Klas.
On the women’s side, there are changes in Team Curira. Sofia Lindberg continues on her own outside the team, with Vasaloppet as her goal. Instead, Team Curira recruited two young girls; Saga Nilsson, 18 years old and Elin Henriksson, only 17 years old. Both from the Pro Team home area, Skellefteå.
“It is an investment for the future. For now, they focus more on shorter distances, but we can give them a good education in double poling and training for long distance skiing, says Klas.
