The Austrain Pro Team, Skimarathon Team Austria, consists of eight Pro athletes for season XI.
Currently, two women and six men from four nations are registered for the Pro Team for Season XI.
With Phil Bellingham and Felix Kappelsberger the Pro Team has two fast sprinters in the team. Their task is to collect points in the Sprint competition for the first time in season XI.
The main athletes are Terhi Pollari, Anna-Maria Wörndle are Veli Matti Räsänen which aim for Top 15 positions for women and Top 50 for men. The SMTA Juniors Markus Dankl and Florian Plieschnegger will participate in Visma Ski Classics Pro Tour for the second time. For the two 20-year-olds, the goal is to gain further experience in Pro Tour events and to get used to the toughness of the pace. This is in order to score points in the youth ranking in the next few years, but also to be successful in Ski Classics Challengers events.
Since the Skimarathon Team Austria successfully competes in competitions all year round, they have not only managed to keep their sponsors, but also to win new ones, despite the difficult Covid-19 situation.
“We look back on a successful summer season in which the Skimarathon Team Austria was able to win the Virtual World Classic Tour. Our athletes were also victorious in several trail runs and the Austrian roller-ski championships,” says Peter Kiene.
Austrian champion Barbara Walchhofer will also join Skimarathon Team Austria during season XI.
“With her clear victory in the Visma Ski Classics Challengers event Salzburg-rollt she has impressively proven her long distance skiing talent,” says Kiene and continues;
“Babsi plans to concentrate on the Continental Cup initially but will compete for us in Visma Ski Classics events from January onwards.”
