This Finnish Pro Team has been very consistent in its pursuit of greatness. This unit has been the best Pro Team from Finland for many years, and in the past, the Mäenpää gang has also been among the top 10 Pro Teams in Ski Classics. They even merged with a Norwegian team for one year to get better results. Last season, they returned to being the Mäenpää squad and are now back to the basics with six skiers.
Viktor Mäenpää is the most successful of the bunch, and his best Ski Classics result took place at Jizerská50 in 2019, when he finished 15th. Last season, he performed very solidly in eight Pro Tour events as his best result was 24th at Årefjällsloppet.
Hannes Mäenpää is also a very good skier who can be in the top 50 if everything clicks. He did it three times last season: 48th at Ylläs-Levi, 49th at Årefjällsloppet, and 39th at Tartu Maraton. Robin Mäenpää is only 20, but he has already shown great promise. He conquered the fells of Lapland at Ylläs-Levi and entered the downtown area of Levi as the 64th best skier.
Christoffer Lindvall took a break from skiing for a couple of years, but he returned to action last season. He is really a man of endurance as he has finished 3rd and 6th, two times, at Red Bull Nordenskiöldsloppet, the longest ski race in the world with a distance of 220 km. His comeback season included four Pro Tour events, and he was in the top 70 in all of them, Marcialonga’s 43rd place being the best.
The two female skiers are still learning the trick of the trade in long-distance skiing, but they certainly possess talent and skills. Sandra Jordman was 4th in the 20 km classic race at the National Junior Championships and 22nd in the 30 km classic race at the National Championships. Amanda Nyfors was 25th in that 20 km race at the Junior Championships and managed to get the same place in the 30 km National Championship race.
This Pro Team wants to get back where they belong, and they have good skiers. The male skiers need to find their mojo and become the best they can be, while the female athletes need to get more experience in long distances. The fight for the best Finnish Pro Team will be extremely fierce this season, and Team Mäenpää is quite adamant about being number one.
