After being part of Team Næringsbanken since the 2015/2016 season, Simen Engebretsen Nordli puts his skis on the shelf. The Ski Classics event Vasaloppet was his last race.
In an Instagram post, Team Næringsbanken announced that the Pro Tour skier would be retiring from the professional rankings after many years of training, dedication, and success.
This season after Vasaloppet, Simen Engebretsen Nordli went to a complete medical check-up after not feeling well. One week after the doctor’s visit, he was admitted to the hospital with what turned out to be a heart attack.
Team Næringsbanken announcement:
“Unfortunately, Simen has to put the skis on the shelf. After Vasaloppet, he took a full check of his body after it had not been working in competitions for a while. A small heart attack/clog was discovered, which can be described as a heart attack.
Simen has been part of the team since the 15/16 season and has developed into one of the world’s best long-distance skiers! 9th place in Jizerska and 10th place in the Vasaloppet are, as he says, probably his best achievements!
Extremely impressive. Simen really set the standard in training and competition! A professional performer who did the job.
Now another life awaits as a retired top athlete. We on the team thank you for many remarkable gatherings, races, and experiences!”
Simen Engebretsen Nordli has 45 starts at Ski Classics Pro Tour and 5 Ski Classics Challengers events on his Palmares. In Season XII, he finished 38th overall in the Yellow Champion competition.
