This Swedish Pro Team has been a part of Ski Classics since 2014 and is an important force in the Pro Tour circuit. Lager 157 Ski Team secured the 4th position in the Pro Team ranking during Season XV and is now ready for another great winter of podiums and victories ahead.  

Lager 157 Ski Team is entering its eleventh season in Ski Classics and presented its squad earlier this year. Looking very similar to last season’s lineup, the changes are that Jenny Larsson is joining the women’s side, and on the men’s side, the athlete leaving is Torleif Syrstad.

Lager 157 Ski Team has nine Pro Team athletes, three women and six men, ready to fight for points, podium places, colored bibs, and the overall win in the upcoming winter. For Season XVI, the squad counts on experienced athletes and young guns from Sweden and Norway, eight from Sweden and one from Norway: Jenny Larsson (1996), Karolina Hedenström (2000), Linnea Johansson (2001), Emil Persson (1995), Oskar Kardin (1992), Runar Skaug Mathisen (1993), Marcus Johansson (1990), Nils Dahlsten (1993), and Alvar Myhlback (2006).

The three women of the team will certainly bring in a lot of valuable points for the team and individually fight for podium places. Jenny Larsson transferred from the Aukland squad and is now ready to become a regular visitor on the podium where she has been four times (one victory at Engadin La Diagonela). Last season, she was among the best five female skiers three times, but she is hungry for more success.

Karolina Hedenström has quickly become one of the best female skiers on the Tour, and she won the Youth competition last season and was fifth in the Champion competition. So far, she has succeeded in being on the podium three times, and we can surely expect her to be among the best three many more times.

Linnea Johansson is not as conspicuous as her two teammates, but she shone at Vasaloppet last winter by being the eighth fastest skier in Mora. The rest of the races did not go as well, but she was in and out of the top-20.

The male skiers do not need any introductions. One is the undisputed Champion of Season XIV, one is the latest Marcialonga winner, one is possibly the greatest talent the skiing world has ever seen, two other skiers are also podium finishers and one could be on his way there.

Emil Persson was in the league of his own in the 2023/2024 season with his nine victories, but last season proved to be a challenge for him. He was on the podium twice and 5^th at Vasaloppet, but he also fell far behind in some races, such as Reistadløpet where he was 81^st. If he can bounce back and find his missing mojo, he can once again be invincible.

Runar Skaug Mathisen is always a gallant figure on the Pro Tour racetracks, and he finally got what he deserved by winning last winter’s Marcialonga. He finished eighth in the Champion competition, and he pushed himself into the top-10 gang seven times.

Alvar Myhlback is perhaps the greatest rising star that we have ever seen. He has been among the top Ski Classics athletes since the age of 16, and last season, he finished third at Vasaloppet. He became the youngest Vasaloppet podium skier ever, as he was only 17 at the time. He has also represented Sweden at various World Cup races, and he is a Junior World Champion in the 10-kilometer classic ski race in 2024. In addition to the Vasaloppet podium place, he was second at Grönklitt ITT.

Marcus Johansson has not been at his best possible level in many years, but he has been on the podium twice. His podium performances took place in 2020, and last season, his only top-30 race was Vasaloppet, where he finished 23^rd. There is still potential left in him, and if he can turn the tables on his rivals once more, he can become the comeback skier of the season.

Oskar Kardin has been around for a long time, and he keeps going strong. He won Engadin La Diagonela in 2021, and he has been on the podium 10 times so far. Last season, his only podium place came from Grönklitt ITT in Sweden, and he was in the top-10 four times, of which Vasaloppet’s eight place is worth mentioning. He still has the power to be a podium skier, and he should not be underestimated even if he could not be at his best last winter.

Nils Dahlsten has not been as powerful as his brother Emil, but he has shown great potential. At Engadin La Diagonela, he was very close to the top-10 (13^th), and he was among the best 26 male skiers in four other races. At Vasaloppet, he crossed the finish line in Mora as the 32^nd best skier. He can become a solid top-10 skier next winter, and it would not be a great surprise to see him even closer to the podium.

Pro Teams Collaboration

A significant step for the long-distance skiing scene was announced in August: Lager 157 Ski Team and Exsitec Ski Team were starting a new collaboration.

According to a press release covered by ProXCskiing.com, the Exsitec Ski Team will function as a recruitment team for Lager 157 Ski Team, further developing the youth initiative started ahead of the 2021/2022 season.

“This came up during the spring, and since then, we’ve been working on it and feel ready to run two teams,” said Anton Järnberg, Lager 157 Ski Team Pro Team Director.
