Marcus Johansson has been with Lager 157 Ski Team since the very start, but after over a decade, the 35-year-old is stepping away from the Swedish Pro Team.
After over a decade on the Pro Tour, Marcus Johansson is stepping away from the Lager 157 Ski Team. The 35-year-old has been a cornerstone of the Swedish squad since its founding in 2014, racing in over 100 Ski Classics events and leaving behind a legacy of loyalty and hard work. His best results are two third-place finishes during the Ski Classics Season X in the 2019/2020 season.
He first claimed a podium at the Kaiser Maximilian Lauf, then followed it up with another third-place finish in Toblach-Cortina.

Part of the Team since the beginning
Lager 157 Ski Team was founded in 2014, and Marcus Johansson has been with the team since its first season in Ski Classics. But now it’s confirmed that, for the first time in the team’s history, Marcus Johansson will not be part of the lineup.
“He’s been with us since the beginning, so he’s the last person remaining from when we launched this ship in 2014. So, this is a big decision for us,” says the Lager 157 Ski Team Pro Team Director, Anton Järnberg, to Langd.se.

Hasn’t reached the same level
In recent years, the Swedish Pro Team athlete hasn’t been able to perform at the same level as before. A 31st place in Marcialonga was Marcus’s best result from last season.
“It’s no secret that Maccan has been at a much higher level in the past few years. Whether it’s due to illness or injury… that’s how it is. Now we feel the need to renew and rejuvenate the team a bit.”
“So Maccan hasn’t really had the results, and at the same time, we need to bring in younger athletes. From a sporting perspective, it’s not hard to justify.”
Despite results not going his way in recent years, he has been an important part of the team’s structure.
“He has been a loyal skier with early roles in races. There will be a void to fill there—something I hope we’ll manage in a good way.”
