On Saturday, February 25, it’s time again for Tjejvasan, the 30km long-distance skiing event with only female skiers at the starting line. The event was first held in Sweden in 1988 and, from this edition, is part of the Ski Classics Challengers calendar.
Celebrating the 35th edition this winter, Tjejvasan is considered the World’s largest ski race only for women. The race starts in Oxberg and finishes in Mora – the same as Vasaloppet.
“We are ready for Vasaloppet Winter Week 2023 with good snow conditions and almost 49.000 skiers registered for the different races. We have 4.800 skiers registered for Tjejvasan and many of the Ski Classics women skiers in the start list,” says Tommy Höglund, Chief of Sport at Vasaloppet organization.
As of today, there is a solid start list for this year’s edition. The top 5 Pro Tour athletes in the fight for the Ski Classics Yellow Champion bib competition are on the start list: Magni Smedås, Team Eksjöhus; Ida Dahl, Team Engcon; Emilie Fleten, Team Ramudden; Jenny Larsson, Team Ragde Charge; and Karolina Hedenström, Lager 157 Ski Team.
In addition, many other strong contenders from the Ski Classics Pro Tour and traditional cross-country skiing will be joining, such as Malin Börjesjö, Team Internorm Alpenplus Trentino; Linn Sömskar, Team Engcon; Frida Erkers, Team Eksjöhus; Hedda Bångman, Team Nordic Expérience; Sofie Elebro, Team Eksjöhus; Frida Hallquist, Team Engcon; Ida Palmberg, Team Ramudden; Moa Lundgren, Exsitec Ski Team; Ingrid Hallquist; Märta Rosenberg; Tereza Hujerová, Team Robinson Trentino; Jennifer Lambert, Team Nordic Expérience; Hanna Lodin and Hilda Löf, Ski Team Göhlins, among others.
Tjejvasan is one of the highlights of Vasaloppet’s Winter Week 2023, which runs from February 24 to March 5. The event offers several competitions, including Vasaloppet, part of the Ski Classics Pro Tour, and Tjejvasan, now part of the Ski Classics Challengers calendar.
