The Ski Classics Challengers event Latloppet Madona is a 32km long-distance race in classic technique this Sunday, March 12, in Madona, Latvia.
The Latloppet Madona is a long-distance skiing race in classic technique being held annually, and for this year, the leading 32km race runs through two 16km long loops around the region.
Latloppet is the only popular classic skiing series in Latvia, and it was started in 2018 with the mission to revive classic skiing traditions, especially among recreational skiers.
Latloppet skiing series is carried out in the northeast part of Latvia – the uplands of Vidzeme. Main event, which is entered in the calendar of Ski Classics Challengers, is located in the surroundings of Madona, which local people call “the winter capital of Latvia.”
The event venue is in Ski Center “Smeceres sils” which is the main cross-country skiing and biathlon center in Latvia. The center is famous for hosting high-level sports events both in winter and summer (FIS Scandinavian Cup of cross-country skiing, IBU European Junior Championships, European Ski Orienteering Championships, and FIS Rollerski World Cup, among others.
The area is known to have good natural snow conditions compared with other Latvian regions. Most of the competition course winds through mild hilly meadows where you can enjoy fantastic views with good weather conditions.
