Blåvegenløpets history goes back to 1979 and it celebrated its 41st edition in 2019. The course stretches from Umbukta to Brennåsen outside of Mo I Rana City, north of Norway. The new Challenger concept was launched earlier in April this year as a common platform in order to connect and promote long distance skiing events worldwide.
Every year since 1979, approx. 1000-1500 persons are participating in the event. Blåvegenløpet has three distances: 10km, 21km and 45km and gathers all from families to professional skiers to one big ski event. The 45km will be the Visma Ski Classics Challenger distance. The course follows the Blue road (E12) which connects Norway to Sweden. The start in Umbukta is only 3km from the Swedish border and the finish line just outside the city of Mo I Rana. Track record is held by Anna Svendsen (02:08:29) and Espen Sundsvik (02:02:23).
"We are proud to finally get the chance to promote our race and be a part of the Visma Ski Classics family as a Challengers event. This will be the first time Visma Ski Classics signs with a race in Helgeland. Helgeland and Mo I Rana are happy to show all the skiers around the world our beautiful landscape and region. Together with Visma Ski Classics, we have good faith in that Blåvegenløpet will grow and hopefully become an event the skiers want to visit every year." says Vegard Nerdal, CEO Blåvegenløpet.
