The fifth Visma Ski Classics Challengers event of the season, La Venosta Skating, 34km, took place today in Val Venosta, Italy. The competition was fierce for both men and women, with podium positions being decided on the last moments of the competition.
Bastien Poirrier from France, representing the Pro Team E-Liberty Ski Team and Katerina Smutná from Czech Republic, representing the Pro Team ED System Bauer Team, where the first skiers to cross the finish line.
In the mens competition the French Pro Team E-Liberty Ski Team dominated the race with their skiers Bastien Poirrier and Thomas Chambellant having a tough fight to the last meters, Bastien Poirrier beating his teammate taking home the first place. Third place went to Iver Tildheim Andersen from Norway, representing Pro Team Rustad IL - Oslo.
In the womens competition the Czech skier Katerina Smutná from ED System Bauer Team met great competition from her country women Klára Moravcová, Pro Team Slavia Pojistovna Sport Team. They got an early gap to the other athletes with a tough duel until the last moments of the race, with Katerina Smutná finishing as number one. The third place went to Swedish Evelina Bångman from Team Rustad IL – Oslo.
Next Visma Ski Classics Challengers event is Vasaloppet China in China on Janurary 4th, followed by Craft Ski Marathon in Sweden on January 5th.
