We continue with the event presentation of season XI with Toblach-Cortina.
The 42-kilometer race takes place January 23rd with the whole course in a Unesco Natural World Heritage.
In the following days we will present all season XI Pro Tour events one by one.
Dating back to 1977, Toblach-Cortina is one of the oldest long distance cross-country ski races in Italy. The race partially follows the original Tour de Ski track, run in the opposite direction, from Toblach to Cortina.
The whole course lies in the Unesco Natural World Heritage, and it goes through the famous Nordic Arena and then continues on an old railroad, the so-called Dolomites Railway (“Ferro- via delle Dolomiti”) passing the viewpoint of the Three Peaks. The highest point of the course is Cimabanche (1,534 m a.s.l.). From there, a 12 kilometer downhill section takes skiers all the way to the finish of the race in the heart of Cortina d’Ampezzo.
Cortina is a popular winter sports resort, and it is best known as the host city for the Olympic Winter Games in 1956. It will host the Winter Olympics for the second time in 2026, together with Milan. The town has an idyllic atmosphere with an international appeal.
Toblach is a regular host location of FIS Cross-Country World Cup events, and many Tour de Ski stages have taken place there. The town has cozy cafeterias, atmospheric restaurants and great shops, and the start of the race is right in the middle of the town.
