Ski Classics World Championship Season XVIII continues on Sunday, January 17, 2027, with the Zuoz – St. Moritz Sprint, a brand new 30km mass start event in Switzerland.
One of the most beloved destinations in cross-country skiing, the Engadin Valley needs little introduction, and it can only benefit from hosting one more event. The day after Engadin La Diagonela, the action continues with a brand new Sprint event: a 30km mass start race on a short, flat course where both Champion and Sprint Competition points are up for grabs at the finish line.
Will it be a tactical waiting game, with a peloton holding its breath before a frantic sprint finish? Or will nerves take over early, with attacks and breakaways lighting up the course from the gun? With fresh legs unlikely after the previous day’s 55km classic, the dynamic promises to be fascinating.

“In the Elite race on Sunday, called ‘Zuoz – St. Moritz Sprint,’ the professional teams set off from Zuoz in opposite directions, pushing themselves to the limit. We expect an exciting, fast-paced race that will be decided in a thrilling final sprint against the historic Olympic backdrop of St. Moritz,” says Florian Wohlwend, Chief of Track.
“This is the first event on our calendar where Sprint points are decided right at the finish line instead of out on the course, and that changes the tactics completely. Athletes can’t just chase points early and ease off. They have to arrive in St. Moritz ready to fight for it in a bunch sprint. It will be all about team tactics,” says Lukas Bauer, Ski Classics Race Director.
