Zelta Klasika 50 becomes part of the Ski Classics Challengers circuit with a 50-kilometer race in classic technique in Piebalga, Latvia.
Zelta Klasika 50, translated as Golden Classic 50, is a long-distance skiing event, taking place in Piebalga, Latvia, for the first time as a 50km event, and now joins the Ski Classics Challengers circuit for the upcoming edition on February 4, 2024.
The event is organized by the sports club/ski resort Zelta Krogs, located in one of the most beautiful places in Latvia – Piebalga! Standing 240m above sea level, which is very high for Latvia, the area has the deepest and longest winters in the country.
In addition, Piebalga is proud and well-known for its unique hilly landscape and cultural/historical heritage.
The Organizing Committee Chairman, Janis Melbardis, is a true skiing enthusiast:
“Having experienced what it takes to make an unforgettable ski race as a participant, we will try to create and develop something similar in Latvia! For two years now, in Zelta Krogs, we had a shorter classic ski race (25km), which was called Latloppet Zelta Krogs. Now, we are making a step forward with new identity and goals, still having Latloppet as our main partner,” says Melbardis and adds:
“We want to establish a long-lasting tradition for classic style skiing in Latvia. Our mission is to create a skiing race that feels like a long-awaited celebration for true skiing fans!”
Local Organizing Committee is pleased to be joining the Ski Classics Challengers circuit:
“Having in mind our mission with this new project, a chance to join the Ski Classics Challengers series is very important and thrills us! It sets a new level of responsibility and quality for what we do here. It also opens borders for any global participant to visit our event, which is a priceless opportunity.”
