Tomorrow, Orsa2Levi will take a trip down to Livigno, Italy, where Team Ragde Charge’s athlete Oskar Kardin is having a high-altitude training camp. Kardin has been an important part of the Aukland brothers’ Pro Team for several years, and last season, he really rose to the occasion and became the team’s leading athlete. He won Engadin La Diagonela, finished in the top-9 in every race and managed to be on the podium in the Champion competition behind Emil Persson and Tord Asle Gjerdalen, respectively.
On the podcast, Kardin will talk about skiing, training, life, and his future prospects. He will also analyze last season’s races one-by-one and take a look at the upcoming winter as well.
“It was a good season for me. I was able to stay healthy without any injuries. I was also able to be consistent in every race and be up there against the best skiers. It was a bit of surprise for me that I became the number one athlete in Team Ragde because we had a strong team. Suddenly, it was me up there, and I took the opportunity and did the best I could.”
Kardin trains close to 900 hours per year, and he is a firm believer in endurance training.
“You can almost be at your best with a lot of distance and easy training and have one or two interval sessions per week. If you have a high volume in your training, you can maintain your high capacity. When it comes to intervals, I often do double-poling either outside roller-skiing or using skierg, but I also do about 25% of my interval sessions running. I often go running up hills or use a treadmill because it’s good for VO2max.”
In addition to skiing, Kardin loves hunting and spending time outdoors. His girlfriend is also a skier, which makes their holiday plans quite easy. Kardin seems to be living a happy life with his significant other.
“I’m now 29 years old living with my girlfriend in Östersund. When I’m not training, I spend a lot of time with my friends, go hunting or fishing or spend time on the mountains. I like to be out in the nature with my dogs. I met my girlfriend through some mutual friends about 10 years ago. She has the same interests as me and we do the same things. We see the world in the same way. We love spending time with each other.”
