The first episode of Ski or Die will be released on Friday, November 17. Team Ragde Charge is the first Ski Classics Pro Team to be released. Here, you will get to know several of the team’s skiers, including Anikken Gjerde Alnæs.
Anikken Gjerde Alnæs, 28, is one of three female athletes on Team Ragde Charge. She has been on the team for several years and won the Green Sprint bib last season. Now, the sprint champion is ready to show off, both on the track this winter and in the Ski Classics Ski or Die documentary.
“It’s been great to record, and it will be fun to watch the episode when it comes out,” says Gjerde Alnæs to ProXCskiing.com.
“In the episode about Team Ragde Charge, we get to see how the team works together as a team.
“I think it’s important to see that we train together as a team and not just as individuals. The way Ragde (Charge) is structured, it’s a lot about working as a team and working together for a win,” says Gjerde Alnæs.
The athletes may also be in for a treat when they take part in the most demanding training camp Team Ragde Charge has all year. Here, high-speed and tired skiers meet.
“Things can get a bit heated when you’re in the middle of the valley on hour three, so it’s not exactly a camera in your face that you think you should have. But there are a lot of cool pictures,” laughs the Pro Team athlete.
Long-distance skiing is not like traditional cross-country skiing, and Anikken Gjerde Alnæs hopes the viewer gets an insight into all the work involved.
“I hope people see how hard we actually work, and that they get a different perspective on what Ski Classics is. That we dedicate our soul to it every single day,” she says and adds:
“In the past, people have said, ‘Oh yeah, you’re going to be a ski tourer.’ Now, you can see that prejudices are disappearing. That people can get a greater insight into the good work and effort that is being done by us ‘skiing enthusiasts,’ as we have previously been called.
Gjerde Alnæs was the only woman on Team Ragde Charge a couple of seasons ago. Last year, she was joined by Jenny Larsson, who is from Sweden. And this year, junior skier Solveig Lie Støverud is also on the squad.
“I think it’s important that more women are on the team. We girls have stood together and benefited from that as skiers. We work well together to take a step forward. Last season, we grew from that, so I think it will show even more this year,” concludes Gjerde Alnæs.
