Ski Classics is thrilled to unveil an exciting change for the upcoming Season XVI, The Cubs, enhancing the Pro Team competition and providing new opportunities for young athletes to get to test Ski Classics.
In order to support young skiers in their decision to go for long-distance skiing early on, Ski Classics introduce Cubs, a new possibility for Pro Teams to test young prospects.
The Cubs category Season XVI includes athletes born before 2004, under 22 years of age. Each Pro Team may have 2 Cubs athletes per event in addition to the normal roster. The Cub athletes can be different for each event, but each athlete may represent only one Pro Team per season.
Another update is introduced through the Vets category on the other side of the age scale. The vet category will now be a standing for the athletes aged 40 years and older, there will not be a veteran bib anymore.
“With the introduction of the Cubs category, we give very young skiers the opportunity to test skiing long distances as a member of a Pro Team. We hope this initiative will enhance the interest in Ski Classics from even more skiers over time. Also, Pro Teams are encouraged to test new young promising athletes, whereas a full Pro in first years might be too heavy,” says David Nilsson, Director of Ski Classics.
