The upcoming Visma Ski Classics Season X will be a special one as it is the 10th anniversary of the long distance world championship, but that fact is not the only reason to celebrate. The women’s competitive field is growing every year, and now 29.4 % of the total Pro Skiers are female athletes. That is the record number in Visma Ski Classics’ history proving that women are getting more interested in long distance skiing.
Additionally, there are more young athletes, under 26, than ever before, 42.9 %, of which the women’s participation is extremely impressive as they count for 50 % of the total number of female Pro Skiers. There are now 36 young women taking part in the Pro Tour of the total number of 72, and there are 69 young male skiers among 173 men in total, 39.9 %. The overall number of Pro Skiers in Season X is 245, of which 72 are women.
"We have worked every season in order to attract more female athletes to Visma Ski Classics. It is satisfying to see that this season we have reached almost 30% female pro team skiers. The number of male athletes is also increasing, but the women increase in a faster pace. We are going in the right direction, even if we still have a bit left to 50% of each gender which is the natural goal!". Says David Nilsson CEO Visma Ski Classics
