This Pro Team was founded by two successful entrepreneurs, Matti Kaski and Tuomas Mikkonen, who have an unyielding passion for long distance skiing. The owners of Kaskipuu will race some of the Pro Tour events this winter.
The team director Kari Varis is a silver medalist in the 50 km free technique race at the Finnish National Championships last season, and he has the most Finlandia-hiihto wins in the country. He also finished 24th at Engadin Skimarathon in 2019 when it was part of the Pro Tour.
Miro Karppanen is the Junior Champion in the 30 km race at the Nationals from last year while Rebecca Immonen has collected many junior medals and also participated in several Visma Ski Classics events, Ylläs-Levi’s 11th place in 2019 as her best result so far. Anni Kainulainen finished 6th in the 10 km classic race at the Nationals last winter.
Kari Varis, the director of the team, says that the team aims to attract more high-profile skiers during the winter season, and they hope to have a powerful strike force by the time the Pro Tour reaches Finland and Ylläs-Levi.
"Our mission at Team Kaskipuu is to bring Finnish business-life closer to professional skiing and improve their cooperation. The idea of the team is to combine business and sport in a fascinating way. Our main sponsor Kaskipuu Oy is one of the biggest door and window producers in Finland," Varis continues.
