Max Novak, Team Ramudden, won the Swedish 40 km rollerski championship today.
"I had a good feeling today and it was fun with my first Swedish Championship gold," says Novak
The men's class had gathered several Pro Team athletes to start but on this day Max Novak was the strongest one.
"I tried the first breakaway at 12 km. I got a small gap but since I didn't get anyone else with me and it was a headwind, I waited for the others.
I tried a few more breakaways on the second lap and always got a gap. With that in mind, it would be silly to wait for a sprint finish to decide the race. There can always happen something at the end of a race. With 8 km left, I went away to a solo victory," says Novak.
The Team Ramudden athlete has two tough training months behind him in June and July, but now there are roller ski competitions every weekend for a while. Next weekend awaits Toppidrettsveka in Norway and then the Challengers Alliansloppet in Sweden and then the new Challengers, Östersunds Rullskidlopp, in his hometown Östersund.
Half a minute behind Max Novak it was a close battle between silver and bronze. Marcus Johansson, Lager 157 Ski Team snagged the silver just ahead of Erik Silfver, Team ES Endurance. Right behind followed Gabriel Strid, Team Nordic Jobs Worldvide and Alfred Buskqvist, IK Stern as fourth and fifth. Johannes Eklöf, Team Ramudden was sixth, one minute and 44 seconds behind Novak.
