The Ski Classics Challengers event, Alliansloppet, a 48km long-distance roller ski race in classic technique, took place today in Trollhättan, Sweden. Andrew Musgrave, Team Aker Dæhlie, claimed victory in the men’s race after a chaotic finish.
Many Ski Classics Pro Team athletes and World Cup skiers matched their skills in a 48km long-distance race today in Trollhättan, Sweden. After a fast-paced day on the roads of Trollhättan and a wrong turn in the final kilometers that changed the results, the Ski Classics Challengers Alliansloppet saw Andrew Musgrave, Team Aker Dæhlie, take the win in the traditional roller ski event.
Alliansloppet – Men’s Race
In the men’s competition, the action dominated the day. On the final lap, a big field of about 20 athletes was still in contention.
Through the final kilometers, the fight was fierce for positioning, and a wrong turn taken by a group of leading skiers scrambled the finish order. Defending champion Alvar Myhlback, who led much of the closing stretch, was among those caught out and dropped to 4th place after the Jury’s ruling.
After the reshuffle, Andrew Musgrave, Team Aker Dæhlie, was awarded the win in a total time of 1:51:29.1, edging Ole Jørgen Bruvoll, Team Engcon, by just 0.1 seconds, with Axel Jutterström, Team Engcon, completing the podium 0.2 seconds back, a finish tight enough that the wrong turn, rather than the sprint itself, ultimately decided the placings.
- Andrew Musgrave, Team Aker Dæhlie, 1:51:29.1
- Ole Jørgen Bruvoll, Team Engcon, +0.1
- Axel Jutterström, Team Engcon, +0.2
