Two famous World Cup skiers and World Champions Martin Johnsrud Sundby and Hans Christer Holund will race this year’s Birkebeinerrennet in Norway. Sundby won the 2017 edition, and he is ready to fight against last year’s winner Petter Eliassen and the other Pro Team Athletes. If possible, he aims to break Eliassen’s course record from 2015, which is 2:19:28,3. Back then, Sundby finished second only 10 seconds behind Eliassen.
“The course is demanding and varied and a lot can happen,” says Sundby. “But it will be fun. Birken is highly appreciated among Norwegians, and I look forward to competing with the best long distance skiers in the world.”
Birkebeinerrennet is the 10th stage in the Visma Ski Classics Pro Tour and takes place on Saturday, March 21.
