1500 athletes are expected to attend the running edition of Marcialonga Coop on September 6. During a meeting in the beginning of August the Organizing Committee of Marcialonga decided that the race was going to be arranged.
“The race will not be as usual. The athletes will start individually with an interval of five seconds,” says Davide Stoffie, CEO Marcialonga.
The event will be one of the first running or cycling events in Italy since the outbreak of Covid-19.
“Many organizers have canceled their events due to the difficulties of arranging a safe event according to restrictions. We decided to do the opposite and do everything in our power to be able to arrange a safe 18th edition of Marcialonga Running Coop,” says Davide Stoffie.
This year’s event will be different compared to previous years. There will not be a mass start in the center of Moena but instead an interval start from the Sports Center in Moena, where the skiing event normally starts in the winter. The finish is moved to the park La Pieve just outside Cavalese.
The length of the track will be 24 km and it will follow the cycling path of Val di Fiemme and Val di Fassa, avoiding the villages.
“We expect that we will reach the maximum number of participants in the race. We decided to limit the number of participants to 1500 people. The runners are very happy that we are able to carry out the event,” says Stoffie and continues;
“We hope things will change for the winter. Anyway, this is an important test for us to adjust a race according to the new restrictions.
