Marcia Gran Paradiso becomes part of the Ski Classics Challengers circuit with a 40-kilometer-long classic race next February in Cogne, Italy.
Marcia Gran Paradiso is a long-distance skiing event, which takes place every year in Cogne, Aosta Valley, Italy, and now joins the Ski Classics Challengers circuit for the upcoming edition on February 5, 2023.
Since 1975, thanks to the insight of 10 locals who gave the opportunity to recreational and professional skiers to enjoy the incredible ski tracks of Aosta Valley. The race starts at the famous Sant’Orso meadows near the village. It goes through stunning landscapes, from sweeping views of the valley and mountains to the narrow passages through the woodland at the bottom of Grand Paradiso Massif, which gives its name to the oldest Italian National Park.
Marcia Gran Paradiso takes place over two days and offers two competitions: the Classic, of 40km, part of the Ski Classics Challengers circuit, and a shorter version with a course of 25km. A race dedicated to young skiers is also offered, the so-called Minimarcia.
Cogne is known as the “Pearl of the Alps,” particularly appreciated for having been able to develop tourism of quality, safeguarding its natural heritage. Cogne offers an extensive network of trails to walk on every season in the heart of the Gran Paradiso National Park, also known for ice climbing, thanks to its more than 150 icefalls.
With 80km of cross-country skiing trails, Cogne is one of Aosta Valley’s most famous Nordic skiing resorts. According to the Local Organizing Committee, “we hope this partnership with Ski Classics Challengers can be a good chance to promote and develop Marcia Gran Paradiso and make our valley known to new ski enthusiasts.”
