Last week Lager 157 Ski Team had a training camp in Åre. The Swedish alpine ski resort offers long slopes that fit nicely in the team's preparation for the Season X of Visma Ski Classics.
“I lived in Åre ten years ago and know what a good training environment there is. A camp in the Swedish mountains during September can be a bit risky, but we had several days with really good weather,” says team manager Anton Järnberg.
In addition to the team's own members, two other strong players participated in the action at the camp. The double Olympic champion in relay (2010, 2014), Daniel Rickardsson, who stands outside the Swedish National team this winter and the Vasaloppet winner in 2018, Lina Korsgren, Team Ramudden, who lives in Åre.
The camp started with a four-hour ”Vasapass”.
“It was a really tough workout right at the beginning of the camp,” says Järnberg. ““Otherwise, the focus was mostly on long distance training during the week.”
Even though the key word of the camp was endurance, there were two really high intensity workouts that the team had to fully concentrate on; running with poles up to the top of ”Åreskutan” and 4x20 minutes of roller skiing uphill.
The team has an exciting new addition in the Norwegian Øyvind Moen Fjeld from Team Ragde Eiendom, who managed to take home a podium place, 3rd, at the final race of the season, Ylläs-Levi, this spring.
“We are very happy with Øyvind. He comes up with new approaches and plays an important role in the team,” Järnberg states confidently.
Klarälvsloppet, a 90km long roller ski event in Värmland, Sweden, on September 22, is next up for Lager 157 Ski Team and then immediately after the Visma Ski Classics Challenger event, they have ski tests in Torsby ski tunnel. The next training camp will be in Båstad in southern Sweden in mid-October.
“This is the third year in a row we are training in Båstad in October. It is warmer down there and there are very nice roads for roller skiing.”
The team starts their snow training at the end of October when one of the team's sponsors, the destination Orsa Grönklitt in Dalarna just outside Mora, puts out an artificial snow track for early season skiing.
