Klarälvsloppet, a 90 km long roller ski event on the 22nd of September 2019 in Sweden, becomes the first launched Visma Ski Classics Challengers event. The new Challengers concept was launched earlier in April this year as a common platform in order to connect and promote long distance skiing events worldwide.
Klarälvsloppet is the longest roller ski event in Sweden and the trail cuts right through the Värmland countryside following the course of the river – a ninety-kilometre asphalted nature trail. The course starts in Hagfors and ends up in Karlstad, where the sun always shines. The race is in classic technique and welcomes both elite and recreational participation. The 90 km roller ski race already attracts many of the top athletes in the long distance skiing world.
"We are proud to announce Klarälvsloppet as the first launched Visma Ski Classics Challengers event ever! Many Visma Ski Classics Pro Team Athletes as well as recreational cross country skiers train and participate in roller ski races during summertime, it is a good way to prepare for the winter events. The Klarälvsloppet course aligns very close to our Pro Tour events being 90km long, making it a great fit for the new Challengers concept. For us the cooperation with Klarälvsloppet is a long term initiative, it fits well in the Calendar for us to build up for the winters upcoming Pro Tour, creating a meeting place for our Pro Teams, and getting a roller ski test of how training season has ben so far. We are also overwhelmed with the great interest in the new Challengers series, we have interest from events all around the world. " says David Nilsson, CEO Visma Ski Classics.
"We are really looking forward to welcome the Visma Ski Classics circus and become a natural meeting place and opener to the winter season. Our 90K race is a tough race and as close as you can get to Vasaloppet on roller skis" says Klarälvsloppets CEO Glenn Olsson.
