A new weekend is approaching with three Visma Ski Classics Challengers events, the weather forecast predicts close to zero temperatures and cloudy days at event locations, but the action is duly guaranteed.
On Saturday, January 18, is time for the Östersund Ski Marathon. The 40km long-distance race in classic technique is taking place in the city of Östersund, Sweden, with 145 registered skiers so far for the main event. Since its start, the race has functioned as a seeding race for Vasaloppet and Tjejvasan, attracting both elite, amateurs and para-athletes to the Östersund Ski Stadium.
Due to lack of snow this year, the race will be carried out with an introductory master’s lap of 4km and thereafter 6 laps on a 6km loop in a total of 40km, with start and finish at the Östersund Ski Stadium.
Next day, on Sunday, January 19, takes place two other Visma Ski Classics Challengers, Les Belles Combes in France and Dolomitenlauf in Austria.
Les Belles Combes is a 40km long-distance ski race in classic technique taking place in the village of Les Moussières situated in the middle of the Haut Jura Nature Parc, France.
The course takes place in the magical “Hautes Combes” offering tracks through beautiful landscapes, only one hour drive from Geneva Switzerland and 1,5 hours from French cities Lyon, Annecy and Besançon. The event has over 35 years of existence, with exceptional snow conditions in the area and perfectly groomed tracks they are ready to welcome all the 167 participants registered so far for the Challengers event.
The second Challengers of the day is Dolomitenlauf, the event celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2020 with a brand new 42km course, with more than 600 skiers taking part in the main race.
The Visma Ski Classics Challengers event is held in classic technique with a welcoming finish in the centre of the Dolomite town Lienz, Austria. The course follows the Drau cycling path in Pustertal area and runs through the valley from Sillian/Heinfels to Lienz with the impressive Dolomite mountains at its side.
