Antarctic Loppet became part of the Ski Classics Challengers circuit with a 50km long-distance skiing race in classic technique at Union Glacier Camp, Antarctica, last winter, and is back this year.
The Antarctic Loppet is a 5-day program of cross-country ski races of varying distances (10km, 20km, 50km) to be held in the Union Glacier area of the Ellsworth Mountains in Antarctica, from December 15 to 17, 2025, depending on weather conditions.
The 10km and 20km timed events will be held on a 10km loop near the iconic Union Glacier camp. For the more adventurous, the 50km course, a Ski Classics Challengers event, traverses the Driscoll, Schneider, and Schanz glaciers, featuring a challenging elevation gain of about 762 meters.
Antarctic Logistics & Expeditions (ALE), the company behind the event, shared their vision for the race:
"We hope this event not only celebrates the rich and storied history of cross-country skiing in Antarctica but also inspires individuals to care passionately about the continent to help advocate to protect its unique landscape."
