The first season of Visma Ski Classics Challengers was a great success and the interest from both, events and participants, is increasing for Visma Ski Classics Season XI. Many of last season’s Challengers events have already confirmed to be part of it again for season 2020/2021 which officially has already started on 30th March 2020. Due to the current situation, no event could be held so far, but there are many more events to come.
The next scheduled Visma Ski Classics Challengers event is Alliansloppet which should take place on 29th August 2020 in Trollhättan, Sweden with a 48km Classic race.
Two events that are already known from last year have changed their names and techniques. In the last week before Christmas, the Pro Tour event La Venosta will be held for Visma Ski Classics Pro Team athletes only on Sunday with a 45km classic distance. While La Venosta offered also a free technique event last year, it has been changed to a 30km Visma Ski Classics Challengers event in classic technique. Now it is called La Venosta Open as it is open to recreational skiers and professionals alike.
Taivalkoski Pölkky, as it was called last season, gives their event the new nifty name Taivalkoski Ski Maraton taking place on 4th April 2021. While keeping the same distance of 50km, the technique changes from classic to free technique. Due to the relatively late Visma Ski Classics Season Final Season XI, points gained at Taivalkoski Ski Maraton will count to the overall SC Ranking.
Already confirmed Visma Ski Classics Challengers events can be found at www.vismaskiclassics.com and soon updates to the list will be made. There are more Challengers to come!
