The Swedish energy company Vattenfall becomes a partner to the Norwegian event Reistadløpet.
"Getting access to electric snowmobiles that follow the skiers is an advantage for both the environment and the skiers who then avoid both the noise and the exhaust fumes," says Jørn Erik Berntsen, Reistadløpet Chief of Event.
It is really about Nordic cooperation, as it is a Finnish company that produces the electric snowmobiles.
"Through our new collaboration with Vattenfall, we will use electric snowmobiles in connection with the Reistadløpet, on Saturday 2 April 2022. Through its cooperation with the Finnish company Aurora, which produces the electric snowmobiles, Vattenfall will contribute six electric snowmobiles and one charging station for Reistadløpet next year, says Reistadløpet's CEO Ivar Holand.
It was in connection with Reistadløpet's work with environmental certification that cooperation with Vattenfall started. In that work, of course, electrification is a central part.
"Vattenfall is an actor that has access to electric snowmobiles and that has access to charging stations," says Jörn Erik Berntsen, Reistadløpet Chief of Event, and continues;
"There are many positive things about electric snowmobiles. Getting access to electric snowmobiles when filming the race, following the athletes and providing nice TV pictures is an advantage for both the environment and the competitors who avoid both the sound and the exhaust.
"It will be possible to try the electric snowmobiles for those who are on site at Reistadløpet this spring," says Espen Rosenborg from Vattenfall's division in Norway.
"When it comes to being able to follow the entire race with electric snowmobiles, I am sure that we will be able to complete it within two years," Rosenborg continues.
