The Norwegian ski hero Petter Northug raced at Alliansloppet in Sweden this weekend. He stayed with the lead group on the first lap and eventually finished 42nd five minutes behind the winner Max Novak, Team Ramudden.
But the biggest news is not that Petter participated in the roller-ski race but his possible plan to do a real comeback. He told the Swedish TV4 that he is seriously considering racing in some long distance ski events and even winning them.
This coming winter, he plans to do some big races, but he emphasizes that he will just try his wings without taking them too seriously. If it works out, he may go all-in with his own team for the next season.
Then, the goal would be to win Vasaloppet, but Petter points out that he needs to train much more than he does today, and at the same time his body has to respond well to the training.
Only time will tell if the 20-time overall medalist at the World Championships and the Olympics can add more prestigious sports merits in his resume.
