The SC Ranking is the live updated international ranking of long distance skiing, unique in combining women and men, pro- and recreational skiers in one single ranking list. Skiers collect points for the ranking in Visma Ski Classics Pro Tour and Challengers events. Points are distributed to all participants in an event and the points are calculated based on the percentual time a skier is behind the winning time in his or her respective gender with an exponential drop of points. At a Pro Tour event, the winning man and woman both receive 2.000.000 points, and at a Challengers event, the winners collect 500.000 points.
For upfront season XI a change is made to the SC Ranking system:
- Skiers’ 15 best results within 24 months are calculated, instead of the previous 20 best results.
The immediate effect these changes have had on the top of the SC Ranking is that Team Ragde Eiendom’s Petter Eliassen, this season’s Vasaloppet winner, has taken over the #1 rank from his teammate Andreas Nygaard. Eliassen has one less Pro Tour victory and two less 2nd position but two 3rd positions more than Nygaard. What makes Eliassen #1 is the shorter relative time difference to the winner, in the events he has not won himself. The 4567 points that separate the two equals approximately 3.5 seconds for the top skiers in Marcialonga 2020. Therefore, we can also conclude that the 3rd ranked Britta Johansson Norgren, Lager 157 Ski Team, is not far behind with 5733 points less than Nygaard.
In November, there were a bit more than 30,000 skiers in the SC Ranking system. After season X, there are now over 60,000 skiers from more than 50 countries that are able to find their ranking by creating an account on MyPages. Anyone can join MyPages here!
