October 31st is the deadline to register as a Challengers event for season 2020/21. Numerous applications of long-distance skiing events around the world are coming in.
The first new Challengers event to be presented this fall is Latloppet in Latvia. The event will take place February 28.
Latloppet started in 2018 with the mission to revive classic skiing traditions in Latvia. The organizers are not aiming for a big event status in the short term.
“We are happy for every new skier which joins the classic skiing family,” says Martins Niklass, Chief of Competition.
Latloppet skiing series is carried out in the northeast part of Latvia - uplands of Vidzeme.
The 30km main event in classic technique entered in the calendar of Ski Classics Challengers is located in the small town Ergli, which local people call “the winter capital of Latvia.”
This area is known to have good natural snow conditions compared with other Latvian regions. Most of the competition course winds through mild hilly meadows where you can enjoy fantastic views with beautiful conditions.
The Visma Ski Classics Challengers series is designed to take more significant responsibility for the sport itself. The series connects and promotes long-distance skiing and roller-skiing events worldwide, allowing an unlimited number of events to be part of the Visma Ski Classics family.
