Emilie Fleten, Team Koteng, made her first season in Visma Ski Classics last winter. The best performance then was second place at Jizerska 50.
Now she is looking forward to competing in Czechia and Jizerska again.
“I have good memories from last year. I was in good shape and had very good skis that day. I really like the Jizerska course, and I’m happy to come back,” says Fleten.
Emilie Fleten, Team Koteng, has started season XI with great results: third, third, second, and she is currently in second place in the Champion competition.
Fleten did her first season in the Pro Tour during season X, representing Team Ragde Eiendom. Her best effort then was her second place at Jizerska 50 after a very strong last part of the race.
Now she is looking forward to race 50 km in the Czech forests on Sunday again.
What are the biggest challenges with the course?
“It’s a very tough start of the race. Last year Britta (Johansson Norgren) and Lina (Korsgren) got an early gap, and I ended up a little bit behind and had to chase them. But a lot can happen at the end of the race. It depends a lot on how well the skis work when we are approaching the finish,” says Fleten.
Fleten has started season XI really strong but has had a tough time with two or three athletes from Team Ramudden around her in the races. When her teammate Astrid Øyre Slind has been out of shape and now taking a break from the competitions, Fleten is the only Team Koteng skier in the women’s field.
How much do you miss Astrid?
“I miss her quite a lot. I hope and believe she will return at the end of the season. We would both be stronger if we were together,” says Fleten.
“We have trained a lot together; we live only 200 meters apart. It’s a delicate balance when you train hard; it can tip over and become too much. That’s probably what happened to Astrid. But you learn as long as you live,” Fleten ends.
