Les Belles Combes in France, a Ski Classics Challengers event, will celebrate its 40th anniversary on an unusual date. The original plan was to have the event on the penultimate weekend of January, but now it has been moved to February 18-19, 2023.
According to an announcement from the Organizing Committee, the main reason for the change is that the organizers can now offer a more balanced calendar and provide the skiers with more opportunities to participate in long-distance skiing races in 2023.
“We have chosen to adapt to an already busy program at the end of January 2023: the Haut-Jura will host a cross-country skiing World Cup, shaking up the national calendar, especially for “long-distance races.” “Les Belles Combes” organizing committee has therefore chosen an original date to celebrate its 40th anniversary: February 18 & 19, 2023.”
“We believe in this way to contribute to a more balanced calendar and, after a few difficult years caused by the health crisis, to give skiers as many opportunities as possible to participate in cross-country skiing competitions in 2023!”
Les Belles Combes is a 42km long-distance ski race in classic technique taking place in the village of Les Moussières, situated in the middle of the Haut Jura Nature Parc, France, on Sunday, February 19, 2023.
The course takes place in the magical “Hautes Combes,” offering tracks through beautiful landscapes, only one hour drive from Geneva, Switzerland, and 1,5 hours from French cities Lyon, Annecy, and Besançon.
The event will celebrate 40 years of experience, and with exceptional snow conditions in the area and perfectly groomed tracks, they are ready to welcome recreational and professional skiers alike.
Les Belles Combes also offers freestyle technique races of 30km and 12km on Saturday, as well as classic technique distances of 23km and 12km on Sunday, and cross-country skiing workshops throughout the event weekend.
