Winter is approaching and the Visma Ski Classics Challengers calendar for Season 2020/2021 is complete!
Thirty-nine events that have entered the Challengers series, seven are new for the season 2020/2021 and five already for 2021/2022.
The Challengers events cover 15 countries on four continents.
Together the Challengers events cover more than 1583 km of beautiful tracks divided into racecourses ranging between 30 and 160 km. Twenty-four of the events are to be skied in classic technique, whereas eight events are offered in free technique.
Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, a few events during the Challengers season had to be canceled during the first part of the Challengers season. Luckily, the new Challengers event Salzburg-rollt in Austria took place as planned at the end of August. There are still 26 events to go until Taivalkoski Ski Maraton in Finland, which concludes the Challengers season at the beginning of April.
In its second season, the Challengers series has become increasingly varied. Newcomer countries of the season are Latvia with Latloppet and Greenland with Arctic Circle Race. Also, three events from Austria (Salzburg-rollt, Ganghoferlauf Classic and Skating) and one event each from Norway (Trysil-Knut rennet) and Sweden (Åsarna Ski Marathon) have been added.
Dolomitenlauf in Austria is one of the Challengers event.
In addition, there may be two more Challengers already this winter. Two more races have applied but have not been presented yet.
